Intel’s low-power CPU development has allowed for interesting new form factors in nettops, and Shuttle is taking advantage of them. They’re not the first company to come up with a design that lets computers mount behind flat panel displays, but they do seem to be doing it well.
Shuttle plans on officially unveiling the new PC at Hanover’s CeBIT technology convention. Sold in a barebones configuration, the XS35 comes with a standard VESA-mounting adapter for fitting directly to a monitor. The new XS35 comes with Intel’s Pine Trail platform in the form of the Atom D510 dual-core CPU, but it also uses NVIDIA’s ION2 graphics platform, making it an ideal choice for a home theater PC. As far as ports go, the system includes HDMI-out, 5 USB2.0 ports, VGA, Ethernet and audio out. There are no fans, since Shuttle went with a passive cooling solution. Unfortunately there’s no price point as of yet, but hopefully it won’t be too high.
